My Internship Experience

 Takeaway: reinforced the importance of clear documentation, project life cycles and cross-team communication. 

Built, documented, presented, and trained staff on a new crew request process covering both planned and emergent crews.

Developed interactive Power BI dashboards using DirectQuery against OPPD’s Oracle database to visualize live outage and operational metrics. 

Wrote documentation alongside a business analyst on different processes to make them easier to reproduce and troubleshoot. 

 Takeaway: gained firsthand exposure to office operations, cross-department projects, and how data-driven decisions get made in practice. 

Evaluated XGBoost and Random Forest models for an ML-driven outage forecasting system, comparing prediction accuracy to estimate outage durations from historical restoration times and initial outage information. 

Automated daily reporting through a custom program using Python and Excel VBA, reducing manual work by 10+ hours per week and improving consistency for the leadership team. 

Supported a data engineer with database additions and development of new tools and informatics displays for circuit outage analysis, including an automatically updating thematic map used during storm situation 

Takeaway: progressed from learning tech-industry fundamentals to hands-on full-stack development across two internship terms. 

Built a full-stack workforce management platform using modern open-source web technologies (React, Next.js, Prisma, MySQL). 

Helped redesign a healthcare company’s website for increased traffic through search engine optimization and customer ease of use.
